Marathon held in Ranchi to raise awareness against drug abuse

A marathon was organized in Ranchi on Thursday to spread awareness against drug abuse and promote a drug-free Jharkhand. The event was flagged off from Bapu Vatika at Morabadi Ground by Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sudivya Kumar.
Addressing participants, Kumar said every step taken by the youth in the marathon symbolized a commitment to protect Jharkhand from the menace of substance abuse. He said making Jharkhand free from drug abuse is a key resolve of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and the enthusiastic participation of young people reflected their determination to support that mission.
The marathon was held from Bapu Vatika at Morabadi Ground to Albert Ekka Chowk and witnessed participation from students of various schools, colleges, universities and coaching institutes, along with sportspersons, government officials, employees and prominent citizens from Ranchi and other districts.
During the programme, the minister administered an anti-drug pledge to the participants, urging them to stay away from intoxicants and work towards building a healthier society. He later felicitated the winners at Albert Ekka Chowk.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said the youth of Jharkhand have not only pledged to help make the state drug-free but have also committed themselves to contributing towards a stronger and more prosperous Jharkhand. He said the overwhelming response to the marathon sent a positive message that a healthy, empowered and aware young generation is essential for the state’s progress.
As part of the event, officials and departments involved in anti-drug awareness initiatives were honoured for their outstanding work and efforts in promoting awareness against substance abuse.
The winners of the cycling competition organized alongside the awareness campaign were Sharad Ahir, Subhas Oraon and Gulshan Dungdung in the men’s category, while Pooja Singh, Nisha Kumari and Manju Kumari secured the top three positions in the women’s category.
An exhibition put up by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations also emerged as a major attraction at the venue, drawing considerable interest from participants and visitors alike.
