Veteran environmentalist Dr Kaushal Kishore Jaiswal has returned from a five-day visit to Nepal after representing India at a three-day international conference on environmental conservation and climate change. During the visit, he was conferred the prestigious ‘Pride of Asia Achiever Summit Award’ in recognition of his longstanding contribution to environmental protection.
The latest recognition marks the 85th award in Dr Jaiswal’s career, including 11 international honours. He was accompanied on the visit by his wife, Dali Mukhiya Poonam Jaiswal, and his son Amit Kumar Jaiswal, a Zila Parishad member from Chhatarpur East. On their return, they received a warm welcome from social organisations and supporters in Patna, Aurangabad, Chegauna and their native region.
The conference was held at Heritage Garden in Lalitpur, Kathmandu, and Pokhara. The programme commenced with the national anthems of India and Nepal, Kanya Pujan, an environmental prayer and a plantation drive. It was organised under the leadership of Nepal Central Cooperative Chairman Saroj Kumar Sharma and Kuleshwar School Principal Meghraj Dula.
Marking the golden jubilee of the Van Rakhi Movement and 60 years of plantation work, Dr Jaiswal tied sacred threads around trees along with students to promote environmental conservation. Notably, several of the trees had been planted by him in 1980.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Dr Jaiswal administered a pledge based on the eight core principles of environmental ethics. He stressed that pollution has become the world’s biggest threat, driving climate change, and urged people to embrace environmental responsibility alongside their religious duties to safeguard the planet for future generations.
