Dumka readies for Special Voter List Revision Drive from today

June 29, 2026

The district administration will launch the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 campaign on June 30 to prepare an error-free, inclusive and updated electoral roll. Addressing a press conference on Monday, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Sinha said the exercise is being conducted as per the Election Commission of India’s directions to strengthen the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct a door-to-door campaign from Tuesday to distribute and collect Enumeration Forms (EF). Sinha said voters whose details are already available in the previous database will generally not require fresh documentation, though limited verification may be carried out in cases of inconsistencies. BLOs will visit each household at least three times, and no voter’s name will be deleted without providing an opportunity to be heard.

The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, followed by a claims and objections period until September 4. After disposal of claims by October 3, the final voter list will be released on October 7.

Sinha said only Indian citizens are eligible to register as voters and outlined document requirements based on applicants’ date of birth. He clarified that Aadhaar alone will not be accepted as proof for registration and must be accompanied by at least one other prescribed document.

Residents can seek assistance through the voter helpline 1950, the ECINet portal, the Voter Helpline app, the Election Commission website and the Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand website. The Deputy Commissioner also cautioned against misinformation on social media and urged citizens to cooperate with BLOs to ensure a flawless electoral roll.
