In a major boost to Jharkhand’s horticulture sector, Amrapali mangoes cultivated in Deoghar have made their debut in the international market, with the first consignment of one tonne (1,000 kg) reaching Dubai.
The premium-quality mangoes, specially packaged in Deoghar, are now available for sale at Lulu Retail Stores in Dubai, marking the first time that fruit grown by local farmers from the district has entered the global retail market.
The achievement is particularly significant for women associated with Self Help Groups (SHGs) and women cultivators, whose produce has earned international recognition. The mangoes were packed in accordance with global quality standards to preserve their freshness and taste during transportation.
The export was facilitated by the Mohanpur Aajeevika Mahila Kisan Producer Company (Farmer Producer Organisation) in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuvania hailed the development as a major step towards the economic empowerment and self-reliance of local farmers.
“This is not just a milestone for our women farmers but also opens new avenues for international trade of Deoghar’s agricultural produce,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner added that the district administration is working to promote other agricultural products in overseas markets, a move expected to enhance farmers’ incomes while strengthening Deoghar’s identity as an emerging exporter of high-quality farm produce.
