Shahdeo alleges govt of covering up treasury scam

June 2, 2026

Pioneer News Service, Ranchi

State BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo today targeted the state government of attempting to cover up the treasury scam. Shahdeo alleged that first the government stalled for a considerable period after the scam initially came to light. Subsequently, yielding to pressure, an SIT (Special Investigation Team) was constituted. However, numerous questions have since been raised regarding both the formation of this team and the selection of its members. Notably, the very treasury officers and DDOs (Drawing and Disbursing Officers) under whose tenure the scam occurred continue to remain in their respective posts.

He further alleged that, merely for the sake of appearances, the state government sent a recommendation to the Accountant General (AG) on April 17, 2026, requesting a special audit. Accepting this request, the Accountant General, within that very same week, sought from the state government all documents pertinent to the treasury scam. Pratul pointed out that, according to the information received, the state government—despite more than a month and a half having elapsed—has still not furnished the documents related to the scam that were requested by the AG. Consequently, the special audit has failed to commence.

This entire episode casts a significant shadow of doubt upon the government’s intentions; it appears as though the government is merely stalling for time by any means necessary in an attempt to sweep the entire matter under the rug.
