The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has announced a symbolic protest on June 7 in Ranchi against the Centre, alleging deterioration in Centre-State relations and non-payment of financial dues, including GST compensation.
Addressing the media, party general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said that Jharkhand is facing a “double economic crisis”, claiming that the Centre has not released pending GST funds and has also delayed allocations under centrally sponsored schemes. “The situation has reached a point where neither the party nor the people of the state can remain silent,” he said, warning of a larger agitation if the situation does not improve.
Bhattacharya further alleged that the country is currently going through a serious economic phase, coupled with a “deteriorating social environment.” He added that even economists are now pointing out the difference between winning elections and effectively governing the country.
Raising concerns over recent developments in neighbouring West Bengal, he claimed that certain administrative measures could lead to social unrest, urging political parties to act responsibly to maintain harmony.
The JMM leader also referred to past remarks made during the farmers’ protest and recent observations in the judiciary, stating that growing unemployment and institutional concerns are adding to public dissatisfaction.
He concluded by saying that while political parties may try to ignore public issues, rising discontent among citizens cannot be suppressed, reiterating the party’s resolve to intensify its movement if necessary.
