Kalpana Murmu Soren, MLA from Gandey and chairperson of the Jharkhand Assembly’s Women and Child Development Committee, inspected women’s hostels in Mumbai during her Maharashtra visit and emphasized the need to replicate such models in Jharkhand.
During her visit, she reviewed facilities designed for working women and female students living away from their families. Calling the initiative “inspiring,” she said such hostels play a crucial role in ensuring safety, affordability, and empowerment for women.
Soren noted that in a city like Mumbai, where the cost of living is high and safe accommodation remains a challenge, these hostels have become a reliable support system for thousands of women and students. “With rising inflation and safety concerns, affordable and secure hostels are essential for women pursuing education and employment away from home,” she said.
Highlighting Jharkhand’s needs, she stressed that similar infrastructure is urgently required, particularly for girls from remote and rural areas who migrate for higher education, competitive exams, or jobs. She added that adopting the Mumbai model would enable women to focus on their studies and careers without worrying about accommodation and safety.
During her visit, Soren also offered prayers at Haji Ali Dargah and Mahalaxmi Temple, praying for the prosperity and well-being of Jharkhand.
