CM calls for faster execution of Logistics Park and WTC projects

Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday directed officials to accelerate key industrial infrastructure projects, including the proposed Logistics Park and World Trade Centre, while emphasizing innovation, market-driven production and support for traditional artisans as part of a broader strategy to boost investment, employment and economic growth in the state.

Reviewing the performance of the Industries Department at a high-level meeting in Ranchi, Chief Minister Hemant Soren stressed the need for a more effective, transparent and result-oriented approach to industrial development. He said strengthening the industrial ecosystem would not only enhance economic activity but also generate new opportunities for employment and self-employment for the state’s youth.

The Chief Minister underscored the importance of showcasing Jharkhand’s industrial potential at the national level and asked officials to undertake structured efforts to attract investors. The meeting reviewed the progress of departmental schemes, investment promotion initiatives and ongoing industrial projects.

A significant part of the review focused on the activities of Jharcraft. Soren called for greater innovation and creativity in product development, directing officials to design products aligned with market demand and encourage greater participation of young people in the sector. He also asked the department to link the display and sale of Jharcraft products with major tourist destinations across the state.

The Chief Minister said Jharkhand’s rich artistic and cultural heritage should be presented in a contemporary form to appeal to wider markets. He directed officials to prepare a long-term roadmap for modernising and expanding the sector.

Reviewing the activities of the Mati Kala Board, Soren emphasized the need to strengthen traditional occupations such as iron craftsmanship, woodcraft and pottery. He noted that these crafts form an important part of Jharkhand’s cultural identity but face increasing challenges due to technological changes and competition from mass-produced industrial goods.

To preserve traditional skills while improving livelihoods, the Chief Minister directed the board to identify artisans, provide training and capacity-building support, and connect them with modern design and production techniques. He also called for a focused strategy to organise artisans and integrate them with markets, enabling sustainable income growth.

Soren further instructed officials to add value to products made from wood and clay through Jharcraft, making them more attractive, contemporary and market-oriented. He stressed the importance of branding, packaging and marketing to help such products gain recognition at both state and national levels.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of major industrial infrastructure projects, particularly the proposed Logistics Park and World Trade Centre. He directed officials to remove bottlenecks and ensure time-bound execution of the projects.

According to officials, the Logistics Park is expected to strengthen transportation, warehousing and distribution networks, reducing operational costs for industries and facilitating smoother movement of goods. The World Trade Centre project, meanwhile, is envisioned as a platform to enhance domestic and international business linkages and attract fresh investment into the state.

Soren said the timely completion of these projects would play a crucial role in positioning Jharkhand as an emerging destination for industry and investment.

The meeting was attended by Industries Minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Development Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh, Industries Secretary Arava Rajkamal and senior departmental officials.
