As a low-pressure area is being predicted to form over the northern parts of Bay of Bengal adjoining the Bangladesh coast, the monsoon activity in Jharkhand is also expected to intensify in the coming days.
A communiqué shared by the Meteorological Centre Ranchi on Tuesday stated, “The upper air cyclonic circulation over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood lay north Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Bangladesh and extends upto 7.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining west Bangladesh coasts over next 24 hours.” Under its influence, the southwest monsoon is expected to intensify in Jharkhand.
According to a bulletin released on July 14, thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty winds are likely to occur at some places in the State from July 15 to July 18 while there is also a possibility of heavy rainfall at some areas during this time.
On July 15, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall at some places in the south eastern and adjoining central areas of the State including Ranchi and Khunti while some places may experience thunder, lightning and strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour
The bulletin stated a possibility of heavy rainfall at some places in the south- eastern parts of Jharkhand on July 16 while on July 17 isolated heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the southern and adjacent central parts of the State including Khunti and Gumla. From June 1 to July 14, Jharkhand has received a total of 193.2 mm of rainfall as against the normal amount of 326 mm and the rain deficit stands at 41%. For the State capital, the rainfall received has been recorded at 263.8 mm while the normal average for this time period is 336.3 mm and has a shortfall of 22%.
Saraikela- Kharsawan has recorded the least deficit of 20 percent with the amount of rainfall received at 258.8 mm as against the normal amount of 324.9 mm. Chatra, so far has only received 91 mm of rain while the normal average for this district is 287.7 mm and is presently facing a shortfall of 68%- the highest in the State.
From July 15 to July 18, the maximum temperature in Ranchi and its surrounding areas will be around 28 to 29 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature will be around 23 to 24 degree Celsius.
