Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday directed the Road Construction Department to expedite all pending infrastructure projects, ensure strict quality standards, and establish a comprehensive database with geo-tagging for every road, bridge, flyover, and culvert project in the state to enhance transparency and accountability.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, the CM reviewed the department’s progress over the past five years. Officials presented detailed reports on completed and ongoing projects, including roads, flyovers, overbridges, bridges, and culverts. Soren expressed displeasure over delays and negligence in project execution and instructed officials to prepare all work plans in a time-bound manner and complete them within the stipulated deadlines.
Warning against unnecessary delays, the Chief Minister said departmental action would be initiated against officials responsible for prolonged pendency. He also made it clear that there would be no compromise on construction quality and that all projects must adhere to prescribed standards.
Soren directed the department to create an updated and well-maintained database of all infrastructure projects and make geo-tagging mandatory. He said every project should carry detailed information on its cost, timeline, status, and progress to facilitate effective monitoring. According to him, geo-tagging would strengthen transparency, improve oversight, and enhance accountability in project implementation.
The CM also instructed officials to promptly identify issues and resolve public grievances without delay. He stressed the need for regular updates on both ongoing and completed projects to ensure better monitoring and timely delivery of public services.
Referring to complaints received through social media as well as print and electronic media, Soren said the government has been receiving frequent reports about potholes, waterlogging, poor road conditions, and irregularities in construction work. He directed officials to take these complaints seriously, act swiftly, and maintain updated records of the action taken.
Highlighting the increased risk of road accidents during the monsoon, the Chief Minister instructed the department to prioritise pothole repairs, improve drainage systems, and enhance road quality. He also emphasised widening narrow roads and strengthening existing infrastructure to ensure safer and smoother traffic movement across the state.
Expressing concern over the slow pace of several ongoing projects, Soren said many road, flyover, and bridge works have remained incomplete for years, causing inconvenience to the public. He instructed officials to prioritise pending projects in Ranchi and other parts of the state and ensure that key works are completed within the next two months. Failure to meet the deadline, he warned, would invite strict departmental action against the officials and agencies concerned.
The Chief Minister also reviewed solar cycle track projects and other new initiatives, directing officials to ensure durability, quality, and timely execution. He further instructed the department to strengthen bridge approaches, provide proper drainage arrangements, and strictly adhere to high construction standards in all infrastructure projects.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Road Construction Department Secretary Sunil Kumar, Engineer-in-Chief Praveen Jayant Bhengra, and other senior departmental officials.
