Journalists staged a protest at Albert Ekka Chowk in Ranchi on Saturday over allegations of alleged misconduct with a woman journalist involving Dumri MLA Jairam Mahato and his supporters.
The protesters demanded an impartial investigation into the incident, a public apology to the woman journalist and the return of the memory card allegedly removed from her camera.
The journalists said any interference with the professional duties of members of the media was unacceptable. They warned that if their demands were not met, a delegation of journalists would meet Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto and submit a formal complaint regarding the incident.
According to the woman journalist, she had gone to interview the MLA to seek his response regarding an alleged viral audio clip when the incident reportedly took place.
The protesting journalists called for appropriate action and justice in the matter. They said journalists should be allowed to carry out their professional responsibilities without intimidation or interference.
Those present at the protest included Dharmendra Giri, Syed Rameez Javed, Javed Akhtar, Rajesh Singh, Mohammad Imran, Amirul Hoda, Shakeel Akhtar and Chandan Rawat, among several other journalists.
