Ranchi
The Ranchi Police on Saturday evening conducted a major simultaneous checking and enforcement drive at more than 50 sensitive locations across the city to curb public nuisance, open drinking, harassment and other anti-social and criminal activities.
The intensive campaign was carried out simultaneously across several police station areas, targeting places identified as vulnerable to gatherings of anti-social elements and unlawful activities.
The operation covered prominent marketplaces and commercial areas such as Firayalal Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk and Main Road. Police teams also conducted checks at open grounds and gathering spots, including OTC Ground, DIG Ground and the Morabadi Maidan area.
Sensitive locations such as the Smart City premises in Dhurwa, isolated stretches along the Ring Road, vacant plots and poorly lit roads were also brought under surveillance. Areas surrounding country liquor and foreign liquor shops, as well as nearby roadside eateries, kiosks and gathering points, were specifically checked to prevent open drinking and disorderly behaviour.
Senior police officials personally monitored the operation in real time, while Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) remained present in the field. Officers-in-charge of various police stations, along with armed police personnel, participated in the drive.
During the operation, police teams checked and searched suspicious individuals, inspected vehicles and dispersed people found unnecessarily gathering at sensitive locations.
More than 100 people were detained during the drive for allegedly consuming alcohol in public, behaving suspiciously or creating a nuisance. Police said they were released after being given strict warnings and instructions against repeating such activities. Their names and addresses were also recorded in police records.
The campaign was aimed at tightening the police response against anti-social elements, habitual offenders and individuals involved in public nuisance. It also focused on preventing open drug and alcohol consumption, eve-teasing, disorderly conduct and street-level crime.
According to the police, the broader objective is to ensure a safe, peaceful and fear-free environment for residents of the capital, particularly women, children and senior citizens.
The Ranchi Police appealed to citizens to cooperate in maintaining peace and public order. Residents have been urged to immediately report any anti-social activity, public nuisance or suspicious person to the police control room by dialing 112 or by contacting the nearest police station.
Police said such special drives against anti-social elements will continue across Ranchi in the coming days.
