A large-scale environmental awareness campaign was organized in the Chhatarpur region to commemorate the golden jubilee of the Van Rakhi Movement, a nationwide initiative dedicated to forest conservation and environmental protection. The programme was led by environmentalist Dr. Kaushal Kishore Jaiswal and Dali Panchayat Mukhiya Poonam Jaiswal.
The awareness drive was conducted at Kerki Kutiya, Mohan Bandh Guniya Tang, Mohanlal Khurja, Parvati Devi Park, and Kerki Khurd. The event began with Kanya Pujan, the singing of the national anthem, and an environmental prayer, followed by the plantation of a banyan sapling symbolizing the commitment to nature conservation.
Nearly 500 Van Rakhi Movement volunteers from around 10 villages participated in a Prabhat Pheri, spreading awareness about the need to prevent deforestation and protect the environment. Participants also tied sacred threads around trees as part of the traditional Van Rakhi ritual, pledging to safeguard forests and preserve ecological balance.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kaushal Kishore Jaiswal said that environmental stewardship and the Van Rakhi Movement form the foundation of human survival. He emphasized the need to reduce pollution by adopting a sustainable lifestyle and limiting the excessive use of modern conveniences.
Mukhiya Poonam Jaiswal urged women to plant and nurture saplings as they would care for their own children. She said such efforts would help ensure a healthy and secure environment for future generations.
As part of the celebrations marking 50 years of the Van Rakhi Movement, Dr. Jaiswal honoured male environmental enthusiasts, while Poonam Jaiswal felicitated female environmental volunteers with fruit-bearing saplings and ceremonial shawls in recognition of their contributions to environmental conservation.
The programme was chaired by Kapil Singh and witnessed enthusiastic participation from environmental activists, villagers, and supporters of the movement. The golden jubilee celebrations are being observed across the country to mark five decades of the Van Rakhi Movement’s efforts towards forest protection and ecological awareness.
