Ranchi hotelier asked to pay Rs 1 Cr in name of Prince Khan

June 6, 2026

Ranchi

A fresh case of extortion in the name of gangster Prince Khan has surfaced in Jharkhand’s capital, raising serious concerns among the business community. On Thursday, Sanjay Bhatia, also known as Tinu Bhatia, owner of the prominent Hotel Capitol Hill, allegedly received a demand for ₹1 crore along with threats to eliminate his entire family if the payment was not made.

According to sources, the threats were issued through voice and WhatsApp calls from an international number. In the message, the sender addressed him as “Johar Tinu Bhatia Ji” before placing the demand. The message further claimed that the family had been under surveillance and warned of consequences similar to the earlier firing incident at Tito’s restaurant in the Airport PS area.

Following the incident, Ranchi Police swung into action. Senior officials visited Bhatia’s residence at PP Compound to gather details. However, no official statement has been released so far. Sources indicate that the police are also probing past cases linked to the Prince Khan gang and its network.

This is not an isolated incident. On June 2, Mihir Ghosh, owner of Hotel Jaljoga restaurant, was similarly threatened and asked to pay ₹50 lakh. Such repeated incidents have created an atmosphere of fear among traders and business owners in the city.

Earlier cases include a ₹1 crore extortion demand made in March 2026 to the owner of Jai Hind Pharma near Albert Ekka Chowk. In January 2026, a similar demand was made to the owner of Tito’s restaurant in the Airport area, where firing took place after non-payment, resulting in the death of a waiter. Other businessmen, including land trader Satish Kumar Mahto from Namkum and entrepreneur Krishna Gopalka in September 2025, have also reported receiving threat calls.

The recurring pattern of extortion attempts has heightened concerns over law and order, with business circles urging stricter action against organized crime networks operating in the region.
