The 37th corporate-level tripartite safety committee meeting of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) was successfully held in Ranchi on Tuesday.
Representatives from the DGMS (Directorate General of Mines Safety), CCL management, and the CCL Safety Board actively participated in the meeting. CCL CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh presided over the proceedings.
During the meeting, a detailed review of CCL’s safety standards and their compliance was conducted. Discussions were also held regarding the progress made on suggestions and recommendations from the previous tripartite safety committee meeting. Additionally, various significant initiatives aimed at further strengthening workplace safety, occupational health, statutory compliance, and the welfare of mine personnel were discussed.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by (DDG, CZ) RT Mandekar alongside DGMS officials, CCL directors and officers, and safety board members. Subsequently, all DGMS officials and safety board members were felicitated with shawls and bouquets.
At the outset of the meeting, the esteemed Safety Board members offered several valuable suggestions based on their past experiences and the challenges regarding safety in coal mines; these contributions were appreciated by the forum.
Addressing the gathering, (DDG, SEZ), SS. Prasad emphasized the importance of infrastructure and safety aspects for women working in the mines. He also suggested upgrading the necessary infrastructure for the annual Preliminary Medical Examination (PME).
In his address, (DDG, CZ), RT. Mandekar recommended the immediate construction of separate washrooms for women and emphasized the need to establish a state-of-the-art Vocational Training Centre. Among other key recommendations, he proposed the immediate formation and implementation of a special task force focused on Occupational Safety and Health ( OSH) under the New Labour Code.
Drawing upon his experience from other organizations, Mandekar offered several small yet significant suggestions that were welcomed by the forum.
Meanwhile, CCL CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh commended the valuable suggestions offered by DGMS officials—particularly the DDG (Central Zone) and DDG (South-East Zone)—in the interest of the workers. He assured them that these suggestions would be implemented according to the established schedule. Highlighting CCL’s core philosophy that “worker safety is paramount,” he called upon all the distinguished members to work in unison to achieve coal production targets in the national interest.
