The Dumka Forest Division concluded a five-day environmental awareness and conservation campaign from June 1 to June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day. The initiative, led by Divisional Forest Officer Satwik, Attached Officer Pushkar Kale and Range Forest Officer S.D. Singh, witnessed active participation from citizens, students, youth groups and forest personnel.
The campaign began with sanitation and cleanliness drives across forest department offices, Dumka Biodiversity Park and nearby public spaces. Officials also conducted awareness programmes on the harmful effects of plastic pollution and encouraged people to pledge support for a cleaner environment. On June 2, a cleanliness drive was organized at Chutonath Park and the adjoining temple complex with the support of local volunteers.
A major plantation programme was held on June 3 at the Urban Forest behind the Outdoor Stadium, where officials, students and residents planted saplings and pledged to ensure their survival. The following day, a painting competition on the theme “Green Environment, Secure Future” was organized at Jhar Madhu Kendra, while students were also shown the Oscar-winning documentary The Elephant Whisperers to promote wildlife conservation awareness.
The campaign culminated on World Environment Day with a cycling rally from Dumka Park to Shristi Park in Kurwa and back, promoting eco-friendly transportation and reduced carbon emissions. Street plays at Dumka Park and Chutonath Park further spread messages on environmental protection.
Speaking on the occasion, DFO Satwik urged citizens, especially youth and students, to actively participate in forest conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources. He emphasized that environmental protection is a shared responsibility and called for collective efforts to preserve nature for future generations.
