Even though monsoon showers lashed various parts of the Jharkhand for the last few days, the State continues to face a rainfall insufficiency.
The cumulative monsoon rainfall deficit for the State from June 1 to July 31 stands at 25 percent while at the onset of the monsoon season it was recorded at 54 percent. For the month of July, Jharkhand has received a received a total of 282 mm of rainfall while the normal average for this month is 318 mm and the shortage recorded is at 8 percent.
Splitting it up district wise, out of the 24 districts so far only eight have received normal rainfall. West Singhbhum has received the maximum amount of rainfall of 573.7 mm while the required amount is 493.6 mm and has recorded an average of 16 percent. The State capital has received 439.7 mm of rain while the normal amount is 521.7 mm. The other districts include Dumka, East Singhbhum, Khunti, Sahibganj, Saraikela- Kharsawan and Simdega.
Chatra and Garhwa have witnessed the least amount of rainfall this season. While the former has received only 173.8 mm of rain as against the required amount of 458.1 mm, the latter was recorded at 160.2 mm whereas the normal average is 432.6 mm. With the insufficiency being recorded at 62 and 63 percent respectively, these two districts fall in the scanty category.
As per the bulletin released by the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi on July 31, from August 1 to August 4 the skies will remain overcast and there is also a possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places in the State. For the next two days no significant change in the maximum temperature is likely, thereafter it may fall by 2 to 3 degree Celsius during the next three days.
Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with a speed reaching 40 to 50 km per hour are also expected at isolated places in the State during this time.
