Airport in Jamshedpur, better roads essential for Jharkhand’s growth: SK Behera

With the draft Jharkhand Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy, 2026 being placed in the public domain for stakeholder feedback, RSB Group Vice Chairman and former CII chairman, SK Behera welcomed the policy but also stressed that industrial growth must be supported by robust infrastructure. He said improved roads, transportation and civic amenities are essential to sustain industrial expansion and attract greater investment.

Interacting with the media on Monday, Behera expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of roads in the Adityapur Industrial Area. Despite being regarded as Jharkhand’s industrial capital, he said the region continues to struggle with poor connectivity, creating hardships for industries, workers and the general public alike. 

Behera also reiterated the long-standing demand for an airport in Jamshedpur, describing it as a necessity for one of eastern India’s fastest-growing industrial and commercial centres. He said an airport would significantly boost investment, trade, tourism and healthcare while improving the city’s overall connectivity.

He further highlighted the poor condition of the Ranchi-Jamshedpur road, noting that damaged stretches have substantially increased travel time to Ranchi Airport. He urged the government to take up the issue on priority to improve connectivity and facilitate smoother movement for industries and citizens.

Behera said the upcoming Padmavati Super Multi-Specialty Hospital, currently in the final stages of construction at Adityapur Industrial Park, is expected to redefine healthcare standards in Jharkhand. The hospital will soon be opened to the public and will offer world-class medical facilities backed by specialist doctors, advanced technology, efficient management and compassionate patient care.

He said the hospital would not merely be a medical institution but would become a landmark in Jharkhand’s healthcare landscape. “A hospital’s identity is not defined only by state-of-the-art machinery, but by the way patients are treated. Our aim is for every patient to experience warmth and trust from the moment they enter the hospital,” he said.

Behera explained that a hospital achieves true success when a patient’s anxiety is eased through a welcoming reception, caring doctors and staff, and quality treatment. He added that several experienced doctors currently serving at reputed hospitals outside Jharkhand have expressed interest in joining the institution, ensuring that patients in the state receive advanced medical care without having to travel elsewhere.
