Emphasizing that the dream of a developed nation relies heavily on a healthy, disciplined, and substance-free younger generation, Sido Kanhu Murmu University hosted a massive public and student turnout on Saturday for the “Nasha Mukt Yuva Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan-2026.”
The landmark event aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual interaction with 125 selected educational institutions nationwide, organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The proceedings at the university commenced at 9:00 AM at the Administrative Block-2 auditorium under the banner of the National Service Scheme (NSS), drawing a capacity gathering of nearly four hundred participants, including university officials, faculty members, NSS volunteers, and students.
The program began with a collective screening of the Prime Minister’s inspiring address, wherein he urged youth to champion healthy habits and drive the movement against substance abuse. Following the broadcast, University Proctor Dr. Rajiv Kumar administered a collective oath to the assembly, committing attendees to abstain from intoxicants and foster grassroots awareness.
Delivering the presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kunul Kandir noted that addiction severely undermines individual health while creating a major roadblock to family, societal, and national progress. He stressed that substance abuse destroys both mental and physical potential, urging students to adopt disciplined lifestyles. “The dream of a developed India will only materialize when our youth are healthy, aware, and completely free from addiction,” he remarked.
Registrar Dr. Abdus Sattar highlighted that the positive energy of the youth is an invaluable national asset that requires collective protection from social evils. Finance Officer Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sinha encouraged students to cultivate self-restraint and positive values, while Controller of Examinations Dr. Reena Nilima Lakda urged unwavering dedication to personal goals. Dean of Science Dr. Nilesh Kumar detailed the neurological and physical harms of intoxicants from a scientific perspective, explaining their adverse impact on memory, decision-making, and productivity.
The event featured the launch of a signature campaign, with participants signing in support of a drug-free nation. Coordinated by NSS Coordinator Dr. Dhananjay Kumar Mishra, who underscored that de-addiction is a widespread social movement requiring active civic participation, the program received technical support from the National Information Centre (NIC) Dumka team. The event concluded with the national anthem and a renewed pledge by the university family to advance the goal of a drug-free society.
