During the Rajkiya Shravani Mela 2026, teams constituted by Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuwania conducted a special inspection drive in the Ghormara area to ensure pure, safe and quality food for devotees. The Food Safety Flying Squad carried out intensive checks of various peda shops.
Inspections were conducted at Maa Durga Peda Bhandar, Sandeep Peda Shop, Peehu Peda Bhandar and Ashish Fast Food. Officials examined hygiene, food quality, manufacturing and storage arrangements, and licence-related records as per the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The establishments were directed to strictly follow hygiene and food safety standards and sell only quality food products.
In the same drive, 1,060 kg of adulterated peda seized the previous night from Omji Peda Bhandar was completely destroyed with the help of a JCB machine in the presence of departmental officers, following due process. This was done to ensure the material could not re-enter the market or be consumed under any circumstances.
The Food Safety Department, Deoghar, has clarified that inspection drives will continue throughout the Shravani Mela to ensure food quality and safety. Strict legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, will be taken against traders found manufacturing, storing or selling adulterated, sub-standard or unsafe food items.
The department has appealed to all food business operators to manufacture and sell only safe and standard-compliant products, maintain prescribed hygiene standards, and operate only with a valid food safety licence/registration. Devotees and citizens have also been requested to promptly report any suspected, adulterated or unsafe food items to the Food Safety Department for immediate action.
