A grand programme will be organised in Pakur on Tuesday to mark the first death anniversary of former Jharkhand chief minister and JMM patriarch Shibu Soren, with an all-party tribute meeting planned alongside the unveiling of his life-size statue.
The statue of the late JMM supremo will be unveiled first near the Old DC Office Chowk, following which an all-party condolence and tribute meeting will be held at the Market Committee premises.
A blood donation camp will also be organised by JMM workers as part of the programme.
JMM Pakur district president Azizul Islam said the party had made elaborate preparations to commemorate the first death anniversary of Shibu Soren, whom he described as one of the founders of Jharkhand and the founder of the party.
“Between 10,000 and 15,000 party workers and supporters from across the district are expected to attend the programme,” Islam said.
He said the programme would begin with the unveiling of Guruji’s statue, followed by the all-party tribute meeting at the Market Committee premises. He added that a state Cabinet minister was also expected to attend the programme, subject to favourable weather conditions.
Party workers have been making extensive preparations to ensure the event is conducted on a large scale and in a befitting manner. The district leadership has appealed to party workers and supporters to participate in large numbers.
Former district president and MP representative Shyam Yadav, district vice-president Samad Ali, town president Mukesh Singh, Aftab Alam, block presidents and other party workers have been overseeing arrangements at the venue.
The programme is expected to bring together political leaders, party workers and supporters to pay tribute to Shibu Soren and recall his contribution to the Jharkhand movement and the formation of the state.
