NIT Alumni Association proposes Rs 10 lakh support for student projects

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur and the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur Alumni Association (NITJAA) on Friday outlined an ambitious roadmap to deepen alumni engagement, announcing a proposal to extend ₹10 lakh for student-centric projects while formulating a long-term framework to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and academic excellence through active alumni participation.
The proposals were discussed during a strategic meeting held in the director’s chamber under the chairmanship of Prof. Goutam Sutradhar, Director, NIT Jamshedpur, as the institute and NITJAA began preparations for the Golden and Silver Jubilee Alumni Meet, scheduled for January 25, 2027.
The meeting focused on strengthening alumni networks, expanding industry-academia collaboration and creating sustainable support mechanisms for students through alumni-led initiatives. A major highlight was NITJAA’s proposal to contribute ₹10 lakh towards projects that directly benefit students and enhance their academic and professional development.
Participants also deliberated on a long-term collaborative framework aimed at leveraging the expertise and experience of alumni to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and academic excellence at the institute. The initiative seeks to create stronger engagement between alumni, faculty, students and industry, enabling mentorship, research collaborations and entrepreneurial support.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Sutradhar underscored the pivotal role of alumni in the institute’s growth and said the forthcoming Golden and Silver Jubilee celebrations would provide an opportunity to reconnect with the alma mater while building stronger partnerships in academics, research and industry.
The meeting reviewed preparations for the alumni meet, including event planning, allocation of responsibilities, fund management and coordination among NITJAA, the institute and the Students’ Alumni Council to ensure the successful conduct of the celebrations.
To further strengthen the alumni network, members discussed introducing mandatory registration with NITJAA for graduating students during the placement process without any registration fee. Another proposal under consideration is to offer life membership at a nominal fee of ₹100, payable after students secure permanent employment.
The participants also explored ways to leverage NIT Jamshedpur’s global alumni network to expand internship opportunities, corporate mentorship, collaborative research, placements and industry partnerships. Emphasis was laid on improving communication with alumni worldwide by regularly updating them about institutional achievements and major events through the NITJAA website and other digital platforms.
