Hazaribagh district police have arrested four alleged active members of the Prince Khan (KSS) and Rahul Dubey gangs from Barkagaon and Giddi police station areas, recovering firearms, live ammunition, country-made bombs, mobile phones and extortion leaflets.
One of the accused, Ankit Kumar Pandey, sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg after allegedly opening fire at police during an arms recovery operation and attempting to flee. Police said the retaliatory firing was carried out in self-defence.
Acting on a tip-off, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Barkagaon SDPO Amit Anand questioned Pandey on August 7. Examination of his mobile phone allegedly revealed links with gangster Prince Khan and members of his KSS organisation, as well as the Rahul Dubey gang, through Telegram.
During interrogation, Pandey allegedly confessed to opening fire with associates on Transport Road near 13 Mile on the night of July 25 and leaving extortion leaflets in the name of the Prince Khan gang. A case has been registered at Barkagaon police station in connection with the incident.
Based on his disclosures, police arrested Om Prakash Pandey alias Kaushal and Kunal Kumar Pandey.
Meanwhile, Giddi police detained Karma Kumar Sahu in Patratu on suspicion of supplying weapons and bombs to intimidate businessmen, coal companies and contractors. A country-made bomb and pistol magazine were recovered from the Sadhu Kutiya forest based on his information.
The overall recovery included one country-made pistol, two bombs, ammunition, five mobile phones and four extortion notes.
