Garhwa deputy commissioner-cum-district magistrate Pashupati Nath Mishra has directed all block development officers (BDOs) and circle officers (COs) to reside at their respective block-cum-circle headquarters, warning of administrative action against those found staying outside their designated jurisdictions.
The directive comes amid reports received by the district administration that several BDOs and COs were living at the district or subdivision headquarters instead of their respective places of posting.
The administration said the practice was affecting public access to officials and could hamper the timely implementation and monitoring of government welfare schemes.
Mishra said the block-cum-circle headquarters have government accommodation for officials and employees. Residing at the headquarters, he said, was essential for effective supervision of government schemes, control over subordinate staff and prompt resolution of public grievances.
Officials who are currently not residing at their designated headquarters have been asked to shift there by August 14, 2026.
The BDOs and COs have also been directed to submit a report confirming their residence at their respective headquarters to the District Confidential Branch, Garhwa, by August 14.
The administration has warned that from August 15, officials found not residing at their designated headquarters during verification will face strict administrative action as per rules.
The deputy commissioner has directed all concerned officials to comply with the order in letter and spirit, keeping public interest and administrative efficiency as their priority.
