DC Bokaro Ajay Nath Jha has called upon schools to take charge of their digital narrative and use social media as a platform to showcase achievements, student talent and positive initiatives rather than allowing their image to be shaped by negative or misleading content.
Interacting with school principals across Bokaro through a video conference on Saturday, DC Bokaro said, “Social media is a part of your life, whether you accept it or not.” He urged schools to adopt a proactive approach by regularly sharing authentic content on academic achievements, sports, cultural programmes, competitions, morning assemblies and other constructive activities through their official social media platforms.
The DC said schools should create their own “good news” and ensure that their positive work reaches parents and the wider community. Regular, credible communication, he said, can strengthen public trust and build a positive identity for educational institutions.
He also stressed that schools should respond promptly and factually to misleading content instead of allowing misinformation to shape public perception. The objective, he said, should be to build a strong digital presence through consistent and responsible communication.
A district-level Social Media Response and Monitoring Committee has been constituted to support positive digital communication and monitor social media activities. Each school will also constitute a three-to-four-member social media committee comprising digitally aware teachers and senior students, who will be trained in responsible and effective social media use.
DC Bokaro further directed schools to follow prescribed procedures when outsiders enter school premises or interact with or record students, helping prevent avoidable controversies and misleading online narratives.
He also asked schools to prepare a white paper on their infrastructure and submit it to the District Education Officer/District Education Superintendent within a week.
