The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, hosted the Khelo India Samvad programme on Wednesday as part of the nationwide initiative organised by MY Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports ahead of National Sports Day.
The programme brought together students, sportspersons, sports officials and other stakeholders to discuss sports, fitness, youth empowerment and the role of young people in building a Viksit Bharat. Participants also joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide interaction virtually.
Dhanbad MP Dhullu Mahto attended the programme as chief guest and urged students to make sports and fitness an integral part of their lives. Recalling his association with football, he said sports help develop discipline, confidence, determination and team spirit.
The participants watched the Prime Minister’s address, in which he emphasised strengthening India’s sports culture and identifying and nurturing talent from an early age through systematic training and scientific methods. He said sports teach youngsters to face setbacks and rise again, while calling for greater grassroots participation.
International Pentathlon gold medallist Anu Kumari, national karate player Raj Sanchu Rajwar and Khelo India para-athletes Md Azad and Kishor Gope were among those present.
The nationwide programme was organised at around 1,600 locations, encouraging youth to contribute ideas towards strengthening India’s sporting ecosystem and the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
