Leader of Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly Babulal Marandi on Friday visited Chilgo village in Amrapara block to meet residents displaced by the Pachwara North Coal Block and take stock of their problems.
During his interaction with the displaced villagers, Marandi heard their grievances related to land acquisition, rehabilitation, employment and their future livelihood. The residents expressed concern over the loss of their land and uncertainty over the future of their families and urged him to intervene for an early resolution of their problems.
After meeting the affected families, Marandi said the condition of the displaced residents required serious consideration by the state government. He said the issue was not limited to the immediate difficulties of those who had lost their land, but also concerned the future of their children and coming generations.
“Once the land is gone, the question is who will think about the future of the next generation?” Marandi said, stressing the need for concrete arrangements for rehabilitation, employment and long-term livelihood security for families affected by development projects.
He said the government should take prompt steps to address the grievances of displaced families and ensure that they receive their legitimate rights and benefits.
Marandi assured the villagers that he would raise their concerns with the state government and fight for their rights. He said the problems brought to his notice during his visit to the Pachwara North Coal Block area would be taken up with the authorities.
He further said that he would not hesitate to raise his voice against the government if necessary to secure justice for the affected people.
“The rights of the people must be protected and displaced families must receive their due rights and justice,” Marandi said.
During his visit, Marandi also met residents of Chilgo, Bishanpur and Alubera. The interaction with the Leader of Opposition raised hopes among the displaced families, who said their grievances had remained unresolved for a long time.
Former Littipara MLA Dinesh William Marandi, Ranjan Marandi, Durga Marandi, BJP district president Sarita Murmu, Amrit Pandey, Anita Murmu, Mohan Tiwari, Ashish Hembrom, Vijay Bhagat and several other party workers were present.
Marandi returned to Pakur late in the evening after meeting the displaced residents. He is scheduled to meet party workers at the Circuit House on Saturday.
