The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand has arrested four successful candidates in connection with alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission’s (JSSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination.
According to a CID press release, the four arrested candidates are Deepak Kumar of Dhanbad, Umesh Kumar Rai of Bhojpur in Bihar who was residing in Bokaro, Vijay Kumar Tiwari of Dhanbad, and Anand Kumar Singh of Saran in Bihar who was residing in Dhanbad.
All four had been declared successful in the examination. Their arrests were made in connection with CID police case no. 01/2025 after the investigation allegedly revealed irregularities in the examination process.
The JSSC-CGL examination has remained controversial for several years. The examination was initially conducted in January 2024 but was cancelled following allegations of a question paper leak. It was subsequently held again on September 21 and 22, 2024, amid fresh allegations of paper leaks, cheating and other irregularities.
Candidates had also raised allegations regarding the circulation of OMR sheets on social media and the alleged distribution of questions and answers in exchange for money.
The CID registered case no. 01/2025 in January 2025 and launched an investigation into the alleged irregularities. Several petitions were also filed before the Jharkhand High Court. In December 2025, the court permitted the authorities to proceed with the declaration of the results while directing that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation should continue.
The SIT has since been examining various aspects of the examination, including the alleged role of candidates and other individuals involved in the suspected irregularities. Recent developments in the investigation have led to further arrests and action.
The latest arrests are part of the ongoing CID probe into the alleged JSSC-CGL examination irregularities.
