The Ranchi district unit of the Jharkhand Police Association has demanded the early arrest of Dumri MLA Jairam Kumar Mahto in connection with a case registered against him at Barwadda police station in Dhanbad district.
The association has demanded that the arrest be ensured within five days, of which three days have already elapsed.
According to a press release issued by the association, Mahto allegedly called Barwadda police station in-charge Ravi Kumar on WhatsApp from his mobile phone on the night of August 21 and used abusive language and threatened him during the conversation.
The association further alleged that Mahto later reached the Barwadda police station along with his supporters and again used abusive language in the station in-charge’s office. It was alleged that items kept on the table were disturbed and the officer’s nameplate was damaged during the incident.
The Police Association also alleged that Mahto had repeatedly used derogatory language against police personnel through social media and the press, affecting their dignity and morale.
A case has been registered at Barwadda police station under Case No. 146/26 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The association said it supports the demand for Mahto’s arrest made by its central office and has called for action within the stipulated five-day period.
