Former Jharkhand statehood movement activists held an important meeting in Dhurwa Sector-2, Ranchi, on Sunday to discuss their position on three major issues currently affecting the state and to finalise their demands before the government.
The meeting, chaired by Lalit Mahto, focused on the proposed Mines and Minerals Amendment Act, 2026, the local and employment policies, and the ongoing delimitation process being examined through a committee constituted by the Delimitation Commission.
The participants discussed suggestions and demands related to the Mines and Minerals amendment, particularly its implications for Jharkhand and its mineral resources. They also deliberated on the local policy and recruitment policy, with members preparing recommendations to be placed before the government.
The third major issue was delimitation. The agitators discussed the possible implications of the delimitation exercise and the position that should be adopted by former statehood movement activists.
The meeting decided to undertake a tour of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts on September 1 to mobilise and bring together former colleagues of the Jharkhand movement.
The activists will subsequently hold a press conference at the Ranchi Press Club on September 6 from 3 pm to 5 pm. Their decisions and demands on the three issues will be formally presented before the government during the press conference.
Those present at the meeting included Lalit Mahto, Ramesh Kumar Sahu, Dr Ajay Nath Shahdeo, Pratibha Pandey, Ranjit Oraon, Babu Manki, Chandranath Bhai Patel, Sanjay Patni and Colonel Jitendra Nath Dev, among others.
