In a significant achievement for regional cinema, Hindi feature film PM’S WIFE, directed by Dumka-based filmmaker Rahul Ranjan, has been officially selected for the Ahmedabad International Film Festival 2026 and the prestigious FYH New York International Film Festival. The recognition marks a major milestone for Jharkhand’s film industry and highlights the growing global appeal of locally rooted stories.
Produced by Pankaj Gupta under the banner of Universe Entertainment World, the 120-minute feature draws inspiration from a widely discussed real-life incident from Jharkhand. The film narrates the struggles of a woman labourer and explores themes of resilience, survival and the transformative power of education. Through its emotionally charged storytelling, the film presents a nuanced portrayal of the socio-cultural realities of rural Jharkhand.
Since its release on the international festival circuit, PM’S WIFE has earned widespread acclaim for its unconventional screenplay and thematic depth. The film won the Best Indian Feature Film award at the India Chicago International Film Festival, received honours at the Peshawar International Film Festival in Pakistan and secured the Festival Special Mention Award at the Chambal International Film Festival in Kota. It has also been screened at film festivals in Dubai, New Delhi and Buenos Aires.
The upcoming screening at the Ahmedabad International Film Festival, scheduled from September 30 to October 2, will place the film among a curated selection of international cinematic works.
Shot extensively in Dumka and Palghar near Mumbai, the film features a cast comprising artists from Jharkhand, Bihar and Maharashtra, including Pankaj Gupta, Shikha Sharma, Rahul Ranjan and actor Satyakam Anand. The soundtrack blends contemporary compositions with traditional folk music and incorporates works by noted Dumka-based writers.
Dedicated to tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the film opens and concludes with the slogan “Abua Dishom Abua Raj,” celebrating indigenous identity and self-governance. With its growing international presence, PM’S WIFE is emerging as a powerful example of how regional stories can resonate with audiences worldwide.
