Monsoon arrives on time in State covering 9 out of 24 districts

The south west monsoon has officially entered Jharkhand on Friday, June 12 and has covered 9 out of the 24 districts including Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Pakur, Sabihganj as well as some parts of Dhanbad, Giridih and East Singhbhum.

The communiqué shared by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated, “The Northern Limit of Monsoon passes through 18°N/60°E, 18°N/65°E, 18°N/70°E, Harnai, Solapur, Hyderabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Kalingapatnam, Paradeep, Baripada, Purulia, Dhanbad, Muzaffarpur and 28.3°N/83°E as on 12th June, 2026. Conditions are favourable for further advance of south-west monsoon into some more parts of Jharkhand during next two to three days.”

The Meteorological Department, Ranchi has predicted light to moderate rainfall in several parts of the State for June 13. An orange alert has been issued for the northeastern and adjoining central parts- Dhanbad, Bokaro Koderma, Hazaribagh and Ramgarh, for chances of thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty winds with a speed of approximately 50 to 60 km per hour. The remaining parts are likely to witness thunderstorm and lightning with winds of up to 40 to 50 km per hour.

A yellow alert has been issued from June 14 to June 18 for some regions in Jharkhand as they are chances of thunderstorm and lightning activity along with winds with a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour.

“The official date for the onset of southwest monsoon in Jharkhand is June 12 and for Ranchi it is June 15 and this year it has arrived on time unlike last year when it was delayed by five days and had made its entry in the State on June 17,” said Director MET office Ranchi Abhishek Anand.

As per the MET Centre, Ranchi, in the next two to three days, the maximum temperature is likely to drop by 2 to 3 degree Celsius thereafter over the next three days it is likely to rise by two to three degree Celsius.

The bulletin released by the MET Centre, Ranchi on Friday showed that the maximum temperature in the State capital was recorded at 31.4 degree Celsius which is 4.1 notches below normal while Bokaro and Jamshedpur were observed at 5.3 and 2.6 degrees below normal at 34.2 and 34.5 degree Celsius respectively. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Daltonganj at 39.8 degree Celsius which is 0.6 degrees above normal.
