Improved access to health care and livelihood opportunities is bringing significant changes to rural communities in Godda district through initiatives undertaken by Adani Foundation in collaboration with Adani Power Godda.
For villagers like 60-year-old Fadma Devi of Motia, free cataract surgery restored her eyesight after she was identified during an eye health camp and referred for treatment. Similarly, 80-year-old Prasadi Yadav of Lobandha village, who struggled with chronic joint pain and limited access to medical care, experienced improved health through regular consultations and medicines provided by Mobile Health Care Units (MHCUs).
To address health-care challenges in remote areas, the Foundation operates four MHCUs covering 137 villages in Godda and Sahibganj districts. During FY 2025-26, the units treated more than 74,000 patients, providing health check-ups, free medicines and ambulance support. Some units are run directly by the Foundation, while others operate in partnership with HelpAge India.
Specialist medical camps organized at the Motia Community Centre have further expanded access to care. Through 108 camps covering fields such as gynecology, pediatrics, cardiology, ophthalmology and orthopedics, over 2,400 patients received consultations, medicines and diagnostic services.
The Foundation also supported 300 tuberculosis patients under the Nikshay Mitra programme by providing nutrition kits for six months. Additionally, four health sub-centres were upgraded and six health facilities equipped with essential medical equipment, benefiting nearly 9,000 patients annually.
On the livelihood front, mushroom cultivation programmes benefited 300 farmers across eight villages, while improved vegetable farming initiatives supported 700 farmers in 17 villages. Skill development programmes have trained youth in technical trades and over 600 women in tailoring and stitching, helping create self-employment opportunities.
The initiatives are contributing to better health outcomes, enhanced incomes and greater self-reliance among rural families in the region.
