Over 43.74 lakh voter names are set to be excluded from Jharkhand’s draft electoral roll following the completion of the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), according to figures released by Chief Electoral Officer’s office.
The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, along with the Absentee, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) list.
Official data show that Jharkhand currently has 2,64,63,236 registered electors. Of these, 2,20,88,937 voters submitted signed enumeration forms, and their names will be included in the draft electoral roll.
However, 43,74,272 voters did not submit signed enumeration forms, making them liable to be excluded from the draft roll. The category includes 7,63,997 deceased voters (2.89 per cent), 14,60,169 voters who were untraceable or absent (5.52 per cent), 15,93,516 voters who have permanently shifted their residence (6.02 per cent), 4,38,560 voters already enrolled at another location (1.66 per cent), and 1,18,030 voters who refused to sign the enumeration forms (0.45 per cent).
Election officials clarified that these names are proposed for exclusion from the draft electoral roll, not final deletion. Once the draft roll is published on August 5, a claims and objections period will begin, allowing eligible voters whose names are missing to submit the required documents and seek inclusion before the final electoral roll is notified.
Kumar urged recognised political parties, BLOs, BLAs and other stakeholders to actively participate in the claims and objections process to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the final electoral roll.
The Election Department has also completed 100 per cent digitisation of enumeration records, bringing the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision to a close. The final number of deleted names will be determined only after disposal of all claims and objections received following the publication of the draft electoral roll.
