BOKARO
In a major step towards sustainable steel production, SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) on Friday launched an advanced Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Dashboard to monitor, analyse and manage carbon emissions across its production units.
The dashboard was inaugurated by the Director In-Charge in the presence of the Executive Director of SAIL’s Environment Management Division, BSL’s Executive Directors, senior officials and representatives of technical partner Centra World, Bengaluru.
The ERP/SAP-based platform will provide near real-time monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions from key units, including the Sinter Plant, Coke Ovens, Blast Furnaces, Steel Melting Shop and Rolling Mills. It will help identify major emission sources and enable data-driven decisions to support BSL’s decarbonisation efforts.
Developed by Centra World in collaboration with BSL’s Technical Committee and SAIL’s Environment Management Division, Kolkata, the dashboard is based on globally accepted standards, including the GHG Protocol, World Steel Association methodology, CBAM and CCTS. It automatically captures daily production data from the ERP/SAP system to accurately assess the plant’s carbon footprint.
The Director In-Charge said the initiative would strengthen BSL’s environmental performance and accelerate its decarbonisation journey, while reinforcing SAIL’s commitment to sustainable steelmaking and India’s climate goals.
