The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested an account officer allegedly while accepting a bribe of Rs 19,500 at the Regional Accounts Office in Doranda, Ranchi.
A CBI team reached the office located near the Accountant General’s office following a complaint and laid a trap to catch the official. During the operation, the account officer was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The agency also detained two other account officers present at the office and is questioning them as part of the investigation.
According to preliminary information, the detained officials work under the account in-charge. They have allegedly been demanding money for clearing bills, following which the CBI initiated action based on the complaint.
After the arrest, the CBI team continued its operation at the office and examined documents and relevant records. The officials were questioned to determine whether others were involved in the alleged bribery network.
The agency is also investigating the circumstances surrounding the demand and payment of the bribe and the possible involvement of other persons.
Further details are expected after the CBI completes its preliminary investigation and formal proceedings in the case.
