CM, Guv pay tributes to Santhal rebellion heroes on Hul Diwas

Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Tuesday paid tributes to the tribal heroes of the Santhal Rebellion, remembering their sacrifices on the occasion of Hul Diwas.
Hul Diwas is observed every year to commemorate the Santhal uprising against British rule in 1855-56. The rebellion, was led by brothers Sido and Kanhu Murmu.
The CM paid floral tributes at the statue of Sido and Kanhu Murmu at Ranchi’s Morhabadi ground. He said the sacrifices of Sido and Kanhu Murmu, Chand and Bhairav, Phulo and Jhano, and countless other tribal martyrs continue to inspire generations.
“On Hul Diwas, I pay my heartfelt tributes to the immortal martyrs of the Hul Rebellion and extend Hul Johar to them. I also offer my respects to our great ancestors and their parents, Chunni Manjhi and Subi Hansda,” he said in a social media post.
“Our ancestors courageously resisted the unjust regime and made it clear that no oppressive force would be allowed to seize our rights over water, forests, land, language, culture and identity. They sacrificed everything to protect their dignity but never bowed before injustice,” he said.
Governor Santosh Gangwar also paid homage to the tribal freedom fighters, saying their courage and sacrifice would continue to inspire future generations.
“I pay millions of salutations to the immortal warriors of the Hul Rebellion, including Sido-Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, Phulo-Jhano, and all the brave heroes and heroines. Their indomitable courage, struggle and sacrifice against British rule will forever inspire us to fight injustice and serve the nation,” he said in a social media post.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President Nitin Navin have paid tribute to the heroes of the ‘Hul Kranti’ (Santhal Rebellion) on the occasion of Hul Diwas. All these leaders took to X to salute the indomitable spirit of these icons from the tribal community.
BJP State President Aditya Sahu, Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi, and former Chief Minister Arjun Munda paid tribute at the statue of Sido-Kanhu in Morabadi’s Sido-Kanhu Park, reverently recalling the heroes’ unparalleled contributions to tribal identity, self-respect, and freedom.
In Santhal Pargana, Dumka Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Sinha paid rich tributes to the legendary freedom fighters Sido-Kanhu and brave personalities Phulo-Jhano by garlanding their statues. He urged citizens, especially the youth, to assimilate the ideals of these great revolutionaries to further strengthen the spirit of unity, harmony, and development in society.
The 171st anniversary of the historic Santhal Hul (rebellion) was celebrated with immense reverence and enthusiasm at Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU) here on Tuesday. Jama MLA Dr. Louis Marandi graced the occasion as the chief guest, while the function was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Kunul Kandir.
Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuvania paid floral tributes to the portrait of immortal martyrs Sido-Kanhu at his confidential office and offered heartfelt homage to them.
