The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is marking the first death anniversary of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, the pioneer of the Jharkhand movement who played a pivotal role in the state’s creation, at his native village, Nemra’s Lukaiyatand in Ramgarh district on August 4. A grand tribute ceremony is being organized for the occasion.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren will unveil a 14-foot statue of the late leader at the Lukaiyatand Martyr Memorial Complex near his ancestral Nemra village.
The CM, Gandey MLA Kalpana Soren, and several other ministers and leaders will attend the event to unveil a life-size statue of Guruji installed on the premises of Sona Sobaran School in Lukaiyatand.
Preparations are moving forward in full swing across Nemra and Lukaiyatand for the death anniversary event. A grand marquee (pandal) is being set up at the venue. A large turnout of JMM workers, supporters, and admirers who view Guruji as their idol is expected, generating immense enthusiasm among local residents.
Speaking on the matter, JMM coordination committee member Vinod Kisku stated that a special tribute program will be organized on August 4 to mark Guruji’s death anniversary. He noted that a life-size statue of Guruji will be unveiled in Lukaiyatand, for which a grand pandal is being constructed, and that a massive gathering of people who cherish and look up to Guruji as their role model will participate in the event.
Besides the main event, the party has also decided to hold similar functions at most places across all 24 districts of the state.
“Condolence meetings would be held at public places like parks and major roundabouts in the cities and towns. Wherever the cadre thinks, they can also install and unveil statues of the leader,” said another JMM leader.
Besides the events on death anniversary, the annual three day festival organised in the state from August 9-11 would also have thematic commemorations remembering the JMM leader, people aware of the development said.
Shibu Soren, a prominent Indian tribal leader and a three-time chief minister of Jharkhand, died last year at the age of 81.
In a political career of more than 40 years, Soren co-founded the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), an influential regional party that has been at the forefront of the creation of the tribal-dominated Jharkhand.
