Congress steps up coordination efforts ahead of RS Polls in State

June 16, 2026

Surendra Soren

Ranchi

Political activity has intensified in Jharkhand ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections for two seats, with the ruling alliance stepping up efforts to ensure victory. The Congress, a key constituent of the Mahagathbandhan, has mobilised its organisational machinery and entrusted senior leaders at both state and national levels with crucial responsibilities.

The party has assigned Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh, Leader of the Congress Legislature Party Pradeep Yadav, former state president Rajesh Thakur, former MP Dr Ajay Kumar, and former minister Banna Gupta the task of maintaining close coordination with MLAs. Their primary role will be to remain in constant touch with legislators and communicate their concerns to the party leadership.

According to sources, the Congress leadership is keen to ensure that no confusion or dissatisfaction arises during the voting process. Senior leaders have been directed to proactively engage with MLAs, address their grievances, and ensure seamless communication with the high command.

Congress leaders have, however, maintained that there is no dissent within the party or the ruling alliance, asserting that all MLAs remain united.

Efforts are also underway to further strengthen coordination within the Mahagathbandhan. Political circles indicate that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) may host a series of dinner meetings at the Chief Minister’s residence over the next two days. These gatherings are expected to bring together alliance leaders and legislators on a common platform to finalise electoral strategy and project unity.

Taking the election seriously, the Congress has also appointed special observers. Senior leaders Ajay Sharma, Nasir Hussain, and the state in-charge have already reached Ranchi through different channels and held discussions with Chief Minister Hemant Soren on poll strategy.

With leaders actively engaged from Ranchi to New Delhi, the focus now shifts to June 18, when voting for the Rajya Sabha seats will take place.
