Dhanbad Police hold first-ever parade of 700 history-sheeters

July 2, 2026

Surendra Soren

Ranchi

In an unprecedented move aimed at tightening the grip on crime, the Dhanbad Police on Thursday conducted a mass parade of 700 identified history-sheeters from across the district, marking the first initiative of its kind in Jharkhand.

The parade was held at the district police lines, where the attendance of the listed offenders was recorded, their identities were verified, and their present occupation, lifestyle and recent activities were thoroughly reviewed. The exercise is part of a preventive policing strategy designed to deter repeat offences and strengthen surveillance over habitual criminals.

Addressing the gathering, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar issued a stern warning, describing the exercise as the offenders’ “last opportunity” to reform. He said anyone found returning to criminal activities would face strict legal action without any leniency. The offenders were also administered an oath to stay away from crime, live responsibly, fulfil their family and social obligations, and become part of the mainstream.

Police officials said those with serious criminal records have been placed under a special surveillance list, with station house officers directed to maintain constant watch over their activities. The administration made it clear that individuals involved in extortion, murder, robbery, assault, illegal land grabbing, unlawful businesses and the public display of firearms would no longer find safe haven in the district.

SSP Prabhat Kumar said the objective of the campaign extends beyond recording the attendance of known offenders. “The aim is to instil a lasting fear of the law and prevent crimes before they occur. Reform is the first option, but repeat offenders will face immediate imprisonment,” he said.
