Dumka students develop Shivganga cleanup boat

June 22, 2026

KUMAR PRABHAT

DUMKA

In a major breakthrough for local innovation and the spirit of ‘Make in India’, a unique “Nature Reviving Boat” developed by the brilliant minds of Dumka Engineering College is all set to clean the historic Shivganga Sarovar in Basukinath. The water body, which holds immense religious significance, will be cleared of debris and waste using this technology right before the commencement of the annual Shravani Mela.

The cutting-edge project has been successfully designed and fabricated under the college’s Center for Electric Vehicle Technology (CEVT). During the official unveiling ceremony of the project, Dumka Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Kumar Sinha highly praised the students for their technological ingenuity and announced the administration’s decision to deploy the boat for the immediate cleanup of the holy pond.

Addressing the gathering, DC Sinha stated that maintaining the purity and cleanliness of Shivganga is of paramount importance given the influx of millions of devotees during the holy month. He further emphasized that this pilot project holds immense potential for the entire region. If the boat proves highly effective in its initial run at Basukinath, the district administration plans to replicate the model to clean up other neglected ponds, lakes, and water reservoirs across Dumka district.

Terming the achievement a stellar example of grassroots engineering, the Deputy Commissioner added that such student-led initiatives perfectly mirror the nation’s vision of self-reliance. The automated boat is expected to provide a swift, eco-friendly, and cost-effective alternative to traditional cleaning methods, ensuring the pristine glory of the reservoir is restored in time for the grand festival.
