Long after his voice fell silent, legendary Bollywood singer Mukesh Chand Mathur who was popularly known as Mukesh continues to live on in the memories of generations of music lovers. On his death anniversary, an unusual tribute has brought together two seemingly distant worlds—forestry and Hindi cinema as Jharkhand’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) and Head of Forest Force (HoFF) Sanjeev Kumar has created a website dedicated to the legendary vocalist.
The website https://singermukesh.wixsite.com/legendarysingermukes, became live on August 25, 2026, chronicles the renowned singer’s life, music and legacy. It is a platform that has turned personal admiration into a digital archive for music lovers and fans to revisit and discover one of India’s most popular playback singer’s timeless voice.
“I have been fond of Mukesh’s songs since childhood and creating this website is my humble tribute to him on his death anniversary and is also something that celebrates his music. I have compiled around 1,000 songs, including both solo and duet numbers and I hope that listeners will find it a useful collection,” said Kumar.
The 1992- batch Indian Forest Service officer explained that the initiative is not just about collecting songs but also an effort to relive the unforgettable voice and bring admirers together on one platform.
“Mukesh belonged to an era when print media was not so popular and social networking did not exist. As a token of homage to him, the site also features cuttings from newspapers and magazines, unseen photographs and untold stories about the legendary singer. Even with advanced technology and new singers taking centre stage, the songs sung by Mukesh continue to resonate in today’s world as well. His songs ‘Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein or Jeena yahan marna yahan still speak directly to one’s heart,” added the IFS officer.
Hailing from Gaya, Sanjeev Kumar is currently posted in Ranchi as the PCCF and HoFF. He holds an MSc in Botany from Allahabad University and has also published three books on Ethnobotany.
