Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar addressed the inauguration of ‘Sakhua Mahotsav-2026’ organized by the Ranchi Municipal Corporation under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign at Ikkiso Mahadev Sthan in Chutia, Ranchi. He highlighted that public participation is essential for environmental protection. On this occasion, he praised the Ranchi Municipal Corporation’s pledge to plant approximately one lakh Sakhua saplings across all 65 wards of the municipal corporation area.
The Governor stated that the Sakhua tree is an integral part of Jharkhand’s natural, cultural, and tribal identity. He emphasized that Jharkhand’s tribal traditions have always delivered the message of nature conservation and balanced living. Water, forest, and land are not merely natural resources for the state, but the very foundation of life, culture, and faith. Therefore, preserving this natural and cultural heritage is a collective responsibility.
Describing ‘Sakhua Mahotsav’ as a symbol of sensitivity toward nature and responsibility toward future generations, he noted that Jharkhand holds a distinct identity due to its dense forests, rich biodiversity, and tribal heritage. He highlighted the global challenges of climate change, rising temperatures, and water crisis, emphasizing that planting trees and nurturing them into full growth is crucial. He urged youth, self-help groups, social organizations, and citizens to turn ‘Sakhua Mahotsav’ into a widespread public movement.
Following the event, the Governor visited the Shri Sureshwar Mahadev Temple (Swarnarekha Dham) in Chutia, Ranchi, where he offered prayers and wished for the happiness, prosperity, peace, and well-being of the people of Jharkhand.
