Voting for the new executive committee of the Jharkhand High Court Advocates’ Association concluded peacefully on Friday, with around 72 per cent of the total 2,889 eligible voters casting their ballots.
Polling was conducted from 10:30 am to 5 pm at the Central Lobby and two halls of the Jharkhand High Court. Elections were held for all 16 posts, with enthusiastic participation from members of the Bar.
The counting of votes will begin on Saturday, following which the results of the election are expected to be declared.
The election has attracted a total of 96 candidates for the 16 posts. For incumbent ad hoc committee president Ritu Kumar and general secretary Naveen Kumar, retaining their respective positions is a major challenge amid a competitive contest.
Five candidates are in the fray for the post of president — senior advocate Ajit Kumar, Ritu Kumar, Mahesh Tiwari, Manoj Tandon and RSP Sinha.
The post of vice-president is being contested by Sanjeev Thakur, Rahul Gupta, Dheeraj Kumar, Pran Pranay, Naveen Kumar Singh and Jaishankar Tiwari.
Four candidates — Naveen Kumar, Vinod Singh, Amit Sinha and Santosh Soni — are contesting for the post of general secretary.
The outcome of Saturday’s counting will determine the composition of the new executive committee of the Jharkhand High Court Advocates’ Association.
