Acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri, the district administration on Tuesday carried out a crackdown on an illegally operated ultrasound centre in the city, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance against practices that promote female foeticide and gender imbalance.
Based on a tip-off, a joint team conducted a raid at “City Ultrasound,” located on the first floor of Galaxy Complex near KantaToli Chowk. The centre was allegedly being run by Dr. Rajesh Kumar without proper registration and authorization, in violation of established norms.
During the raid, officials seized key equipment and documents from the premises, including an ultrasound machine, computer system, printer, ANC register, billing records, and other related materials. The centre was immediately sealed.
The operation was carried out by a team comprising a magistrate deputed by the district administration, officers from the Lower Bazar police station, male and female police personnel, medical officers, representatives from the Civil Surgeon’s office, the district programme manager, and other health officials. The raid was led by the Additional District Magistrate.
The Civil Surgeon, Sadar Ranchi, stated that operating an ultrasound centre without due permission is strictly illegal and that the administration is enforcing a policy of zero tolerance against such violations.
Deputy Commissioner Bhajantri issued a stern warning, stating that any individual or entity involved in activities encouraging female foeticide or disturbing the gender ratio would face strict legal action. He also directed the health department to intensify monitoring and continue regular inspections and raids to curb illegal practices.
