The three-day iRISE Early Career Researcher (ECR) Level 1 Capacity Building Workshop concluded on Thursday with a valedictory ceremony and certificate distribution at the Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ), Ranchi. The programme was jointly organised by the university’s Research and Development Cell and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, under the iRISE – Inspiring India in Research Innovation and STEM Education initiative.
Speaking at the ceremony, Workshop Coordinator and Associate Dean of the Research and Development Cell, Dr. Dharmendra Singh, said the workshop, held from July 28 to 30, aimed to strengthen the professional and transferable skills of PhD scholars and early career researchers. He said the initiative sought to develop participants not only as competent researchers but also as effective communicators, innovators, entrepreneurs and educators.
A total of 101 participants from different universities and institutions took part in the workshop. According to Dr. Singh, their active participation and interactive engagement made the programme a productive learning experience.
The workshop focused on three major themes. The first day dealt with scientific communication and effective presentation skills. The second day centred on innovation and entrepreneurship through a startup simulation exercise that introduced participants to problem-solving, product development and commercialisation. The final day focused on science pedagogy, active learning methods and learner-centred teaching practices.
Dr. Singh said the workshop addressed key dimensions of an academic career by combining research skills with communication, innovation and teaching competencies. Dean of the Research and Development Cell Prof. Manoj Kumar and IQAC Director Prof. Tapan Kumar Basantia said such programmes play an important role in enhancing research and teaching abilities.
Dr. Manawa Diwekar-Joshi of IISER Pune announced that the Level II workshop will be hosted at IISER Pune and encouraged participants to continue their learning journey. The programme concluded with certificate distribution and a vote of thanks.
