The CID investigation into alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has intensified, with former JPSC chairman L Khiyangte appearing before the agency for questioning for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday.
Khiyangte, a former IAS officer, reached the CID headquarters in Ranchi, where investigators questioned him over alleged irregularities in the 14th Combined Civil Services Examination and other recruitment processes.
This is the fourth round of questioning of the former JPSC chairman. He had earlier been questioned for several hours on three consecutive days as investigators sought details about the examination process and alleged irregularities.
CID, Palamu Police conduct raids
Meanwhile, a joint team of the CID and Palamu Police conducted multiple raids on Monday in connection with the JPSC case.
The teams simultaneously searched premises linked to Santosh Kumar Singh and Ravishankar Kumar.
Searches were carried out at Santosh Kumar Singh’s residence in BN College area of Hamidganj in Medininagar, as well as at his ancestral residence in Naudiha Bazar.
The searches continued for several hours, during which investigators reportedly seized a number of documents and electronic devices suspected to be relevant to the investigation.
Investigators are examining the seized material as they work to establish evidence and determine the alleged role of different individuals in the recruitment examination controversy.
Investigation widens
The CID stepped up its investigation following complaints of irregularities in the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination. Several people have already been arrested in the case, including former JPSC Deputy Controller of Examinations Shweta Gupta and Ramveer Singh, director of private agency TDPL, besides others.
Former JPSC chairman L Khiyangte resigned from his post towards the end of July amid the controversy. His premises have also previously been searched after his name emerged during the course of the CID investigation.
The agency is continuing to question officials and other persons connected with the examination process as it seeks to establish the extent of the alleged irregularities.
