A life-size statue of Padma Bhushan awardee and Jharkhand movement pioneer Shibu Soren, popularly known as Dishom Guru, was unveiled on Tuesday at the old Deputy Commissioner’s office premises in Pakur on the occasion of his first death anniversary.
The ceremony was attended by legislators, senior administrative officials, political leaders and hundreds of citizens, who paid floral tributes to the veteran tribal leader and remembered his contribution to the creation of Jharkhand and the protection of tribal rights.
Among those present were Maheshpur MLA Prof. Stephen Marandi, Littipara MLA Hemlal Murmu, Deputy Commissioner Megha Bhardwaj, Superintendent of Police Anudeep Singh, Divisional Forest Officer Saurabh Chandra, ITDA Project Director Arun Kumar Ekka, Additional Collector James Surin, and other district officials.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Stephen Marandi described Shibu Soren as a visionary leader who dedicated his life to safeguarding the identity of Jharkhand, protecting tribal rights, and promoting social justice. Hemlal Murmu said Soren’s legacy of sacrifice and struggle would continue to inspire future generations.
Deputy Commissioner Megha Bhardwaj said preserving the memory of great leaders is essential for connecting younger generations with their ideals of public service, equality and social justice.
Leaders from various political parties and social organisations also paid tribute, highlighting Soren’s lifelong commitment to the rights of marginalised communities and his historic role in the Jharkhand movement. The event concluded with a collective pledge to uphold his ideals and work towards the state’s inclusive development and social harmony.
