Lohardaga’s Amrapali mangoes set for export to Dubai, Italy

In a major achievement for Jharkhand’s horticulture sector, Grade-A Amrapali mangoes grown in Rocho Barwatoli village under Salgi Panchayat of Kuru block in Lohardaga district are set to reach international markets in Dubai and Italy. A consignment of around 1.5 metric tons of premium-quality mangoes was flagged off for Kolkata by Lohardaga Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Meena on Monday.

The mangoes will be shipped from Kolkata to Dubai and Italy through maritime routes with support from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). Officials described the development as a reflection of the dedication of local farmers, their adoption of modern farming techniques, and a strong commitment to organic cultivation.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said Lohardaga has immense potential in agriculture and horticulture. He noted that farmers of Rocho Barwatoli have demonstrated how rural producers can successfully access global markets through quality production. He also reiterated the district administration’s commitment to increasing farmers’ incomes and expanding marketing opportunities.

Around 25 acres in Rocho Barwatoli are under mango cultivation, primarily of the Amrapali variety, with Mallika mangoes also grown in some orchards. A total of 32 families depend on mango cultivation for their livelihoods.

Officials said the MGNREGA-backed Birsa Harit Gram Yojana has played a crucial role in supporting mango growers. Between 2017-18 and 2025-26, mango orchards were developed over 6,306 acres, benefiting 7,288 farmers. The export is expected to strengthen Lohardaga’s identity as an emerging horticulture hub and open new avenues for farmers in international markets
