In a major boost for technical education and research, students and faculty members of NIT Jamshedpur will soon benefit from academic exchanges, joint research projects, and advanced learning opportunities at IIT Delhi under a newly launched national collaboration initiative.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with 18 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), including NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Rourkela, under its Academic Linkages for Innovation and National Growth (ALIGN) programme. The initiative, formally launched on June 4, 2026, aims to strengthen academic and research cooperation in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Under the collaboration, students and faculty from participating NITs will gain access to IIT Delhi’s academic ecosystem, including its state-of-the-art laboratories, research facilities, and faculty expertise. One of the key highlights of the initiative is the opportunity for selected meritorious undergraduate students to spend their final year at IIT Delhi as Special Exchange Students. During this period, they will be able to pursue courses, engage in research projects, and participate in various academic activities.
Postgraduate students will also benefit through enhanced research opportunities and exposure to advanced academic programmes. The initiative is expected to encourage multidisciplinary innovation and create a stronger network of collaboration among premier technical institutions across the country.
Education experts believe the programme will be particularly beneficial for students of NIT Jamshedpur, enabling them to experience an IIT-level research and innovation environment while enhancing their academic and career prospects. Faculty members will also be able to participate in exchange programmes, collaborative research projects, and co-guidance of student theses and research work.
The 18 NITs included in the initiative are NIT Sikkim, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Silchar, NIT Jamshedpur, NIT Rourkela, NIT Raipur, VNIT Nagpur, SVNIT Surat, MNIT Jaipur, MANIT Bhopal, MNNIT Allahabad, NIT Kurukshetra, NIT Srinagar, NIT Tiruchirappalli, NIT Calicut, NIT Surathkal, NIT Warangal and NIT Jalandhar.
“The ALIGN initiative is expected to strengthen the country’s technical education ecosystem by promoting innovation, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative research while creating new avenues for academic excellence and national-level opportunities for students,” said an official.
